Gazebos as Art

Klassic Custom Decks • July 3, 2013

You’ve probably seen a good number of gazebos; you might even have one in your own yard. However, you’ve likely not seen gazebos like the ones at the Salone del Mobile (Milan Furniture Fair), the biggest furniture fair in the world!

Designer Ferruccio Laviani created an art installation for the fair that included a handful of gazebos. These seven gazebos weren’t traditional by any stretch, though. Each one was a different color of tinted glass, a collection of green, red, yellow, purple, and orange gazebos scattered across the space.

More Than Just a Structure

The installation doesn’t stop there—inside each of the gazebos, you’ll find amazing imagery, including huge flowers, imaginary animals, and even anatomical diagrams of the 17th century set within the equally whimsical and eerie color cast by the gazebo.

At night, the gazebos really come alive. Lit from the inside, each becomes a glowing color of light and the art inside of them becomes even more attention-grabbing.

If that weren’t enough, included in the installation is a piece that features a series of wooden planks laid out like a walkway upon which are several chairs that appear to be sinking into the wood as if it were quicksand.

About the Milan Furniture Fair

The most prestigious furniture fair in the world, the Milan Furniture Fair takes place in Milan, Italy every year, and furniture designers from across the globe bring their new designs and concepts to display.

With over 2700 vendors at the 2013 show, there was more than enough to see, but the gazebos were an artistic piece all their own.
