Phil Klonowski, owner of Klassic Custom Decks, got started in the deck business as a young teenager. He started out as a laborer learning how to set up a job, operate tools and the proper steps to constructing a deck. This was a summer and weekend job when he was not in school. After graduation from Nordonia High School in the Macedonia/ Northfield area, he went full time into the deck building business.
Phil has always loved meeting and working with customers. He takes great pride in every project Klassic Decks designs and builds. His passion for learning and teaching the deck building industry grows stronger every day. Over the past 20 years, Phil has been involved in all phases of running and operating the company. Most recently, Phil worked on designing and building our new office, showroom and shop in Brunswick, Ohio.
Phil currently lives in Richfield, Ohio and is happily married to Jackie Klonowski. He has 3 children: Jamie, 24; Nick, 17; and Nathan, 14. When not at work, Phil enjoys football & baseball with the family, hunting and fishing, bowling and quality family time.
At the early age of 16, Rob started working at a local family-owned and -operated lumberyard in Brecksville, Ohio. His day consisted of putting lumber away by hand and loading customer’s vehicles with whatever it was they needed. He really loved learning what all the different building materials were going to create.
Knowing he loved building things the owners would let him stay after hours to build anything he wanted, from bird houses, picnic tables, clocks, and even furniture. His passion for building and design evolved from this experience.
After high school, he attended the University of Akron. While in school, he took a job framing houses with a carpenter crew. This, by far, has provided him with the most useful tools when it comes to designing decks. Knowing basic construction, the way things go together and the hands-on experience is something you do not learn from a textbook, says Rob.
His favorite part of the job is meeting with homeowners, putting their thoughts on paper and seeing the project come to life. He says there is nothing more gratifying than seeing the response from customers when the project is completed.
In his free time, you can find Rob spending time with his three children and his high school sweetheart, to whom he has been married to for 20 years. Although very frustrating, he does enjoy the game of golf, tackling projects around the house, and yard work.
